In 2022 all school students travelling on dedicated Bayhopper school buses or Tauranga urban routes can travel for free 24/7. This is a trial and commences 31 January 2022 until 31 December 2022. Students will need a registered Bee card with concession applied to travel free except for some dedicated school bus services - students please check here.

Daysaver fares allow you to travel anywhere on the Bayhopper Tauranga urban network for the day of issue.
Concession fares apply to the following groups:
- Children under 5 years travel for FREE
- Children aged 5 - 15 years (paying with cash)
- Children including school students aged 5 - 18 years (paying with a registered Bee card with concession applied)*
- Secondary and school students with a valid student ID (paying with cash)
- Tertiary students (with a valid student ID with a NZQA registered institution, paying with a registered Bee card with concession applied)
- NZ SuperGold card holders after 9am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays (with concession applied to a registered Bee card).
- The Accessibility Concession is available to people with an impairment that means they permanently are not able to drive a motor vehicle. An assessment is required as part of the application process. See here for more details.
How do transfers between buses work?
When using a Bee card:
When using a Bee Card, transfers between buses are automatically applied. Customers will need to tag on and tag off for each part of the journey; the system will not charge you any extra providing your journey is within the transfer rules.
- Free transfers between buses apply for two hours from your first tag on to your final tag off.
- The transfer time between buses can be no more than 30 minutes.
- You can only have a maximum of two free transfers per journey.
When paying with cash:
- Free transfers between buses apply for one hour from ticket purchase.
- The transfer time between buses can be no more than 30 minutes.
- You can only have a maximum of one free transfer per journey.
- You will need to present your ticket when transferring to the next bus.
