What is happening?
On a temporary basis, Tauranga bus services have moved to a reduced Saturday timetable on weekdays, from Monday 21 February.
School buses are still running to their normal timetables and bus routes 20, 22, 52x and 70 continue to operate at their usual times.
Please check www.baybus.co.nz before you travel.
Why are the timetables changing?
Tauranga bus services have temporarily changed due to bus driver shortages and the impacts of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
We want to avoid having to cancel services at short notice, which is becoming increasingly common at the present time. The driver capacity issues are due to drivers and other bus operations staff needing to self-isolate or take sick leave.
If there are less buses, will passengers be left behind?
We are reviewing bus patronage data as part of our planning for the reduced bus timetables.
We are constantly looking at the impact on bus capacity and providing extra bus services on routes where needed, so we don’t leave any passengers behind.
How long will this last?
The revised bus timetables will likely remain in place over the coming weeks while we ride out the current Omicron wave. We will keep passengers informed with up-to-date information as to any further changes.
Please continue to refer to www.baybus.co.nz or call 0800 4 BAY BUS for updates.
Where can I find the most accurate bus timings and information?
Please refer to Transit App, Google Maps and the Live Tracking function on the Baybus website for real time bus information. These tools have been updated to reflect the new bus schedule.
You can also refer to the Baybus website or call 0800 4 BAY BUS for the latest information.
We encourage you check each time before you travel.
Are school buses still operating?
Baybus services for school children are our priority and are continuing to operate on the current timetables.
We encourage you to use the school bus services operating in your area rather than the urban buses.
We are still committed to serving the rest of our community but request everyone please check before they travel due to the reduced timetables from 21 February.
Are Transit App/Google Maps/Live Tracking working?
Transit App, Google Maps and Live Tracking information and electronic signage at bus stops, have all been updated and now reflect the new bus timings.
Will the revised COVID-19 timetables reduce the number of cancelled trips?
We are doing our best to provide a consistent bus timetable with less cancelled trips but as the Omicron situation unfolds, we may need to make further changes to the bus timetable.
We encourage customers to check www.baybus.co.nz or call 0800 4 BAY BUS before they travel.
