The Bee Card is a prepay travel smartcard for public transport in Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Nelson, Otago and Invercargill.
The following concessions are common across all regions mentioned above;
- Child (5-12 years)
- Youth (13-18 years)
- Youth plus (19-14 years)
- SuperGold
- Senior
- Community Services Card
When you use a Bee Card with a pre-loaded concession and tag on and off the bus, the applicable concession will be automatically applied. However, it's important to note that you will be charged the fare relevant to the region you're traveling in.
For example, if you have a Bee Card registered in Waikato with a youth concession (13-18 year old) loaded, you will receive free travel in the Bay of Plenty region at all times, according to our fare structure.
Alternatively, if you have a Youth concession loaded on your Bay of Plenty Bee Card you may not be able to travel for free in other regions if their fare policy differs to ours.
All other concessions not mentioned above, are local and will not apply to bus users travelling outside their registered region.
If you're planning to move permanently to a different region, we recommend applying for a new Bee Card registered in that specific region. This way, you can take full advantage of the local concessions available in your new location.
More information on the concessions available in the Bay of Plenty Region is available here.
